5th Annual Greater Farmland Civic Association General Meeting
The Greater Farmland Civic Association Board (GFCA) of Directors urges all GFCA members and interested neighbors to attend the 5th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 7:30-9pm at Farmland Elementary. The program will include the election of additional Board Directors, a Fire Safety Presentation by Jim Resnick, Montgomery County Safety Educator, and an Update on the Progress of Tilden Middle School Construction by Tom Biggs, GFCA Treasurer and public school parent.
The GFCA Nominating Committee (Faye Bresler, Ed Rich, and Peggy Slye) is pleased to present its Slate for the 2017 Board of Directors Election. The nominees' Statements of Interest can be found below. Although the Board had initially decided to increase the Board to 9 directors and advertise 3 openings, the Board voted last week to expand to 11 directors, so that the Nominating Committee could consider putting forward all 5 of the submitted self-nominations. The Nominating Committee and the Board believe that this expansion to 11 will bring additional creativity and resources to our growing association. As provided for in Section 5.01 of the GFCA Bylaws additional nominations may be made from the floor at the meeting or by submitting a written petition signed by 15 GFCA members by April 1 to Peggy Slye at Secretary@GreaterFarmland.org
A reminder that only paid GFCA members can participate in the election. If you have not yet paid your dues, dues will also be collected at the meeting.
We hope to see you on April 5th!

It has been my great honor to serve on the Greater Farmland Civic Association Board for the past two years. Having lived in the community as a child, attending Farmland, Tilden, and Woodward, spending summers at the Old Farm Pool, raising my own kids here, participating on school issues, serving as block captain for 25 years, and most important sharing all of this life with my wife Jenni, I would welcome the opportunity to further serve the community on the civic association board. Please consider my name for election to a full term on the board. Thank you.

I am interested in being on the Greater Farmland Civic Association Board GFCA Board. I don't have a lot of specific experience with the talents listed in the [Board’s] email, but what I do have is a history with this neighborhood that rivals almost anyone here. My family moved to Old Farm in 1975. I moved away after college (stayed in the DC area) and 4 years ago moved back to Old Farm and now live on Hitching Post Lane. My father still lives in the house I grew up in on Farmland Drive, so I've retained a connection with the area even when I wasn't living here. I've always believed it to be a wonderful place to live and raise a family - as evident by the number of my old classmates who have moved back here as well and are now raising families of their own. My wife and I both work full time, but I want to contribute what I can to ensuring this stays the great place to be that it has been for me for over 40 years now.
I therefore respectfully submit my name for consideration as a member of GFCA. Thank you.

I have lived on Plantation Lane in Old Farm since 2009 and am a member of the Farmland ES PTA and Old Farm Pool. I retired from a career in higher education academic support: Montgomery College 1998-2005, American University 2005-2014.
I am interested in running for the GFCA board to get more involved in the association’s social events and to help with other projects relevant to the neighborhood’s interests in the community. My family has attended many of the GFCA-sponsored events over the years and has appreciated the active group of GFCA volunteers who’ve kept us up-to-date on pertinent issues and information. From my previous work, I have a lot of experience organizing events and programs. In addition, as a member of the Farmland Elementary School (FES) PTA and the very active “Old Farm Moms” listserv, I can help spread the word about association activities and announcements.
Thank you for your consideration.

I have been in the DC Metro Area for nearly a decade. After attending University of South Florida for my Bachelor's degree in Social Work, I completed graduate studies at The Catholic University of America, National Catholic School of Social Service. My husband and I rented a condo in North Bethesda for five years before purchasing our first home in Takoma Park. Missing the amenities and feel of the Rockville area, we, along with our two terriers, joined the Old Farm Neighborhood in July 2016. I currently practice psychotherapy at Maryland Integrative Counseling Associates. As both a runner and dog owner, I take great interest in making the area as safe, friendly, and visually appealing as it can be.

I am an Assistant Director at the Federal Trade Commission, where I focus predominantly on combating consumer fraud. I have been living in Old Farm since 2011, shortly after my wife, Beth, and I and our two children, Oriyan and Adar, moved to the area from New York City. I am interested in serving on the board of the GFCA because, as Board Member Rick Gentry stated, if we love living in this neighborhood, then we need to do our part to help it remain a great place to live, and try to make it even better. We feel extremely lucky to live among such interesting and community-orientated people, send our kids to such a wonderful school, and benefit from a beautiful and safe environment. I appreciate the opportunity to make a contribution. Thanks, Rick, for the challenge!
